Man dies after being ejected from vehicle during a crash in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., (WVEC) — A man died after his car crashed and hit a power box in Newport News early Friday morning, Assistant PIO Brandon Maynard said.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 12600 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Police found that the driver of a white 2006 Nissan Altima was ejected from the car after it crashed and hit a power box, Maynard said.

According to the Dominion Energy outage map, 47 customers are without power due to the vehicle crash.

The driver has not been identified, Maynard said. He said that speed was a factor in the accident.

The Newport News Police Department Crash Team Unit is investigating.
